Mercy Kioko

Mercy is an associate at the firm. She joined the firm in 2022 as a Trainee Advocate. Mercy is involved in an array of legal matters including Employment and Labour Relations, Legal and Governance Audits, Regulatory Impact Assessments, Legislative Drafting and Review, Dispute Resolution and Constitutional and Human Rights related disputes among others. Mercy has also been involved in advising clients across different sectors on contentious and non-contentious issues.

Work Highlights 

  • Part of the team that conducted Regulatory Impact Assessments for various Regulations on behalf of various clients such as Communication Authority of Kenya (CA), Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MOALD) and Centre for African Bio-Entrepreneurship (CABE).
  • Supported AFA, CABE and the MOALD in National Validation Workshops  
  • Part of the Team that successfully defended AFA in a petition where it was an interested party, on validity and nullification of the Crops (Irish Potato) Regulations, 2019. 
  • Part of the Team that has successfully conducted legal compliance and governance audits for leading corporates, state corporations and other government entities including the National Assembly of Kenya, UFAA, NGCDF, UAP Old Mutual, KPPF, KASNEB and SASRA among others. 
  • Actively involved in the Legislative Drafting and Review of regulations such as the Kenya Information Act and its attendant regulations, draft Public Private Partmerships (PPPs) in Commercial Forestry Regulations and the Mining (Mine Health, Safety and Environmental) Regulations. 
  • Actively involved in various trainings for the firm and its sister entities (TCA and Board and Secretarial) on employment and labour relation matters, legal compliance and governance audits, data protection, emerging areas among others. 
  • Involved in various employment and labour relation matters, a complex arbitration matter involving the Communication Authority, environment and land court matters, tax matters that have been settled and other dispute resolution matters, some of which have been successfully dismissed or ruled in favour of the firm’s clients. 
  • Part of the Team involved in the review of Kashindi’s Digest of Employment Cases: Volume II.
