Our partners, Irene and George Kashindi, co-authored two volumes of “Kashindi’s Digest of Employment Cases” in August 2020 and November 2023. The Digest analyses select cases from the Employment and Labour Relations Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court, covering more than 40 key thematic and sub-thematic areas in employment and labour relations, ranging from recruitment to termination/retirement of employment and important matters in between.

The Digest is unique in many ways. The cases are carefully selected for their jurisprudential value. The Digest is organized by key thematic areas where the court has developed significant jurisprudence. The legal principles enunciated in the holdings of the cases are summarized below the headnote of each case. Each entry includes a caption with the title of the case, case number, court, judge(s), and date of the decision. A summary of the facts and the issues/questions the parties sought to resolve are provided, followed by a summary of the decision, holding, ruling, or award. Where available, the names of counsel instructed in the matter are also indicated.

To add scholarly depth and research value, the Digest includes references to cases, statutes, texts, journals, and international instruments relevant to the thematic areas covered. Arguments advanced by the parties and the reasoning or application of the law by the court are provided in some cases based on editorial discretion. Important editorial notes guide the reader to cross-reference other decisions in the Digest or cases reported elsewhere.

The Digest has become very popular and is acclaimed as a valuable resource for both employers and employees in employment and labour relation matters.
